New Zealand schools get very little promotional material from the UK, and yet they have an educational system similar to ours and can be responsive to UK promotions. This is particularly true with books and computer programs that can be supplied as downloads.

Given that they are currently in school (while the UK schools are on holiday) that makes them an ideal market for UK firms to sell to during the summer.

The New Zealand winter term started on 16 July and continues until 28 September. They resume on 15 October and conclude for Christmas and the summer holidays on 20 December.

Hamilton House recently experimented with selling books on special needs topics to schools in New Zealand and had considerable success. The easiest way to handle the finance is to suggest orders by fax with a credit card (your card company will charge whatever amount you say in Pounds Sterling, and the local bank translates that into New Zealand dollars. Alternatively you can quote the price in New Zealand dollars (£1 = NZ$1.94 at the moment – you can get an update on http://coinmill.com/GBP_NZD.html or from your bank).

Here’s the list of schools in New Zealand

Primary 5 to 11 – 820

Primary 5 to 13 – 972

Secondary 13 to 17 – 312

Intermediate 11 to 13 – 114

Special schools – 41

We can send out emails to these schools for you at these rates:

Primary schools 1792 – £79.00

Secondary and intermediate (426) £21.00

Prices subject to VAT. Emails are sent overnight UK time, to arrive in the day, New Zealand time.
