Marketing without a budget – part five, shared mailing

It is possible to do postal shared mailing and shared emailing to schools.  Postal shared mailing costs between roughly 4.5p and 7p per teacher you reach (excluding the cost of printing).  Email shared mailing costs around 1p per teacher. In each case you choose who in the school you want to reach. We have made changes next term to both of these programmes.   For the shared emails you can now have up to 100 words to describe your product – apart from the web site, email address and other contact points.

For postal shared mailings we are now offering a free personal email campaign alongside the postal shared mailing either to the 5000 secondary schools or the 5000 largest primary schools.

Marketing without a budget: the web site

This is the fourth in my series about marketing without a budget.  It involves building and maintaining a website for just £15 a month in the first year (including the building of the site).

In fact that £15 a month includes purchasing the address you want, building the site, hosting the site, and setting up email facilities.   This gives you a two page web site – and you can have more pages at just £50 each.

If you want to see what our web sites look like do have a look at the link below.  You won’t get a site as huge as www.hamilton-house.com for £15 a month, but if you wanted to make it grow, you could – which is one of the great benefits of our approach.

There is more on the web site below, or please call 01536 399 000.

More ways of marketing without a budget

I have been writing for a few days about marketing to schools with a very low budget.  So far we have looked at

1. Buying the complete list of school email addresses for unlimited use for £49.95, which means a purchase price of 0.2p per school, reducing effectively to nothing because it can be reused.

2.  Then there was UK Education News (www.ukeducationnews.co.uk), where a listing costs just £25 plus VAT, and stays for a year on www.blog.schools.co.uk The result is about 1p per hit.

Now here’s my third idea: Personal email lists.

Personal emails (the ones that go straight to teachers rather than via the school administrator with the phrase “Attn Head of Maths” or whatever, are among the most expensive lists on the market – because they deliver the best results.

And I must confess there is no way of using them with no budget.

But…

There are three ways of using these lists at a significant discount.  There are full details on the web site www.emails.gs (just click on the relevant button on the left side for primary or secondary personal lists).  But here are the three discount offers…

a) First time user discounts so the emails cost 7p each the first time you do a campaign

b) School holiday discounts (for emails that reach schools during the holidays.  5p each email - and the results can be surprisingly good).

c) Stand by emails, from 7p each.  With these you don’t specify the exact date when the email goes out, but we guarantee to send the emails out within six weeks – and the email won’t go out during the half term or school holidays.

I hope you find some of these ideas useful.

Marketing to schools without a budget – part 2

I wrote recently about the notion of doing marketing to schools without a budget. I confessed it was just about impossible to do it with no budget, but thought that nevertheless we could get the price down somehow.

So, here’s the second part of my approach: using UK Education news.

Again this is not totally free but it has the virtue of being about 1p per hit for your message, with a maximum cost of £25.00 plus VAT.

UK Education News is a rolling news service, used by thousands of teachers and managers in schools as a way of keeping up with the news.

www.ukeducationnews.co.uk

Advertisements are mixed with news, and the average advert lasts as a headline on the service for about five working days.

The actual text of the advert also appears on www.blog.schools.co.uk and this stays on line for at least a year. Overall we get about 30,000 text hits each month through both sites.

If you want to book on UK Education News just write to Chris@hamilton-house.com and supply, as an attached word file, the headline you want to have on UK Ed News, plus, underneath, the text that you want associated with it.  Plus just agree to the £25 plus VAT and we’ll run it for you, and then issue an invoice.

There will be more on “marketing without a budget” in the near future.

Shared primary and secondary postal mailing with free email campaign

When you undertake a postal shared mailing campaign to either the 5000 largest primary schools or all 5000 secondary schools you can have a free email campaign, using our premium personal email lists.

A shared postal campaign involves a small number of printed leaflets going to the school in one envelope.  Each leaflet can be marked for the attention of a specific person, and the administrator then passes them on.  We’ve run this service for 30 years with some considerable successes.

A personal email campaign (which comes free with the postal shared mailings listed below) goes to the individual email addresses of specific teachers*.  You don’t have to email the same people as you send the postal leaflet to – you just choose one of our email lists from www.emails.gs – more details below.

The next available shared mailing for the 5000 largest primary schools is that on 13th September 2011 with the delivery of materials by 6th September 2011.

The next available shared mailing for all 5000 secondary schools is on 7th September with the delivery of materials by 31st August.

PRICES (for each mailing – there’s a 10% discount on the 1 leaflet price if you do both mailings).

1 leaflet, £388, 2 leaflets £472 (price per leaflet 4.7p)
Weight charge: £20 per gram after the first 15g.

Multiple leaflets: If you are sending more than one leaflet the leaflets do not have to be to the same teacher,

The full list of personal email lists that we have is given on http://www.emails.gs/Secondarynamedlist.html for secondary schools and http://www.emails.gs/Primarynamedlist.html for primary schools.

*The free email campaign can use any of our email lists, subject to availability and do not have to be to the same teacher as the postal campaign.  With personal email lists where the list is divided into A and B sections you can use one of these sections; where there is no sub-division you can use the whole list.   Where schools accept advertising emails, but have not allocated individual email addresses for teachers the emails are sent to the school office with the name of the individual teacher added to the subject line.

To talk through the details, and to arrange a booking, please do call 01536 399 000.

PS: Hamilton House customers who are members of the Velocity programme can now include postal shared mailings in their campaigns at no charge.  We’ll be writing separately on this.
