Research carried out by the School of Educational Administration has revealed for the first time exactly which programs schools use to send and receive emails.

While the results don’t reveal huge surprises, they do counter the argument that schools have veered away to specific email systems of their own.

Most popular email system is Outlook which is used by 39.6% of schools responding.

Second most popular is the RM program “EasyMail” with 18.4%

After that comes Outlook Express  with 11.2% meaning that just over half the schools are using one of Microsoft’s two brand leaders.

From there on we move to individual programs.  13.6% of schools use a program supplied by the local authority while 12.4% use programs that they nominated.  Reading these answers it is clear that many are using a web mail based system – with Googlemail being the most popular at 3.6% followed by Yahoomail, and then other systems which only received one or two replies.

Livemail had 0.8% and Lotus Notes 0.4%.  No one owned up to using Mozilla Thunderbird.

Hamilton House has been involved in trials with Outlook, Outlook Express and EasyMail to ensure that emails sent out through our servers appear satisfactorily within them – and the answer is yes they do.
